California law requires employers to pay employees for all time worked. Employees must be paid from the minute they start to the minute they stop working. Setting up a work station, changing in and out of uniform, and cleaning up before or after shifts are all examples of work-time which requires that employees be compensated.

It is illegal for employers to round up minutes resulting in shaving off minutes of from an employee’s pay. These minutes add up over time resulting in a tremendous windfall to employers.
